MD, PhD

Hendrik Van Poppel, MD, PhD, graduated in General Surgery in 1980, in Urology in 1983 and did his postgraduate training in London, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Mainz and Rotterdam. In 1988, he obtained a PhD in Medical Sciences. He became a Fellow of the European Board of Urology (FEBU) in 1992. He became full Professor of Urology at the KU Leuven in 1993, and Chair of the department of Urology in Leuven in 2002. He was visiting Professor in Aachen, Munster, ‘s Hertogenbosch, Linz, Barcelona, Jönköping, Marburg, Cardiff, London, Heidelberg, Mainz, Timisoara, Surabaya and Vienna where he demonstrated live uro-oncologic surgery. Other live demonstrations took place in Nijmegen, Zaragoza, L’Aquila, Brussels, Milan, Torino, Tbilisi, Djakovié, La Vallette and Alexandria.

Andrey Koptyug has completed his PhD in Chemical Physics in 1987. Since 1991, he was working in several international research organizations, and since 1999- with MidSweden University. He is heavily involved with modelling and methods in system biology since year 2000 and at present is an Associate Professor. He has published more than 90 papers in reputed journals and has 6 patents. Current citation indices are h=25 and i10=50. Current interests heavily focus on cell-based studies within implant integration and in aging and rejuvenation.

Dr. Majeski is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Erickson School at The University of Maryland at Baltimore County. She was previously Program Director of the undergraduate Management of Aging Services program with UMBC at Shady Grove and Academic Program Director, Gerontology and Social Science in The School of Undergraduate Studies, University of Maryland University College where she developed award-winning online gerontology programs. Her publications and conference presentations have focused on best practices in asynchronous online instruction and course development, experiential learning, academic program assessment; gerontology and management of aging services education, and integrative health and wellness in aging. Dr. Majeski is the former Chair of the Maryland Consortium of Gerontology in Higher Education. She worked with older adults as a cardiovascular health educator and registered nurse in retirement community and adult daycare settings. She holds a Ph.D. in Human Development/Education from the University of Maryland at College Park, an MA in Religious Studies, and a B.S.N. from the Catholic University of America.

Alicia Murciano Hueso is a professor in the Department of Theory and History of Education at the University of Salamanca and Coordinator of the Interuniversity Program of the Experience for over 55 years of the same University, where she also teaches various courses and lectures on digital technology and aging. PhD with outstanding CUM LAUDE and international mention by the University of Salamanca (2022) with her thesis “Perception and Acceptance of technology in the elderly: the role of emotions”. Extraordinary Doctorate Award, academic year 2022/2023. Degree in Sociology with honors diploma for her academic record (2017) and Master in Teaching from the University of Salamanca (2018). Collaboration Grant in the Department of Theory and History of Education in 2017/2018 at the University of Salamanca and Predoctoral Contract of the JCYL in the same department (2019/2022). She is a member of the recognized research group Procesos, Espacios y Prácticas Educativas - GIPEP-. Her research focuses on Social Pedagogy and Socio-educational Intervention, especially in the field of adults and the elderly, educational technology and socio-emotional development. Under this theme, she has participated in the work team of 6 research projects (1 European project, 3 national projects, 1 regional and 1 local), 32 presentations at conferences and national and international academic events, as well as in a total of 6 teaching innovation projects and 224 hours in courses received in teacher training and 396 hours in courses received in specialization. In addition, she has carried out three research stays with competitive grants for the study of the perception and technological acceptance of the elderly (Instituto Politécnico de Viseu - Portugal, Cardiff University - United Kingdom and Universitat de Valencia - Spain)

Dr GUO, Cui is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urban Planning and Design at the University of Hong Kong. Her research interest mainly lies in Environmental Health, particularly in air pollution, climate change, built environments, and healthy cities. Prof. Guo has published over 70 journal articles in peer-reviewed prestigious journals, including Circulation, Lancet Planetary Health, Environmental Health Perspectives, Diabetes Care and eClinicalMedicine as first/corresponding author. Her research is mainly based on both local and global health systems to contribute scientific findings to the improvement of human health and living environment. Her research enhances the modification of air pollution guidelines and health improvement. The research findings have been reported by a series of newsletters. Prof. Guo also serves as an (youth) editor board member of a few journals, a member of ISEE and ACSP. She has obtained several competitive academic grants and is awarded the HMRF fellowship (2024). She further constantly serves as a reviewer of several top journals.

William Harris holds a PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota. Since 1980, his research has focused on omega-3 fatty acids. He has been the principal investigator on 8 omega-3 related NIH grants and (as of Feb 2024) has 345 omega-3-related publications. In 2004, he co-developed the “Omega-3 Index", a blood test to assess EPA+DHA status that can be performed on dried blood spots. In 2009, he formed OmegaQuant, LLC to offer the test to researchers, healthcare providers and consumers, and in 2020, he established the Fatty Acid Research Institute. His scientific productivity was ranked among the top 2% in a recent survey of scientists worldwide

Dr. Les Dolega is a Senior Lecturer in Geographic Information Science and Retail Geography. He is also a member of Consumer Data Research Centre and Future of High Streets Government Task Force. His research interests are in retail geography, consumer behavior, ageing population and area classifications. He has worked on a number of projects delineating spatial extent of UK retail centers, their catchments, performance Indicators and multidimensional classifications. Most recently he has led a project creating a bespoke geodemographic classification of ageing population in England (Ageing in Place Classification) and examined its real-world applications.

She has also worked in collaboration with the Board of Research in Nuclear Science a Branch of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai, India. She works in the research group of Prof. Cinzia Di Pietro where she studies the expression patterns of non-coding RNAs in ovarian follicles, in cumulus cells and in blastocoel fluid, their association with oocyte and embryo quality and their correlation with reproductive aging, in order to understand their biological role in female gametogenesis and preimplantation embryo.

Dr. Rich Allsopp is a Professor at the John A Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM). He has collaborated with both David G. Watumull, President of Cardax Inc., and Dr. Bradley Willcox, Professor at JABSOM and Director of the HHP Center of Biomedical Research Excellence for Translational Research on Aging at Kuakini Medical Center, to study the effect of astaxanthin, formulated and provided by Cardax Inc., on mouse lifespan as well as the expression of the Foxo3 gene in mice. In humans, FOXO3 was first shown to have a significant, positive association on with human lifespan by Dr. B. Willcox and his colleagues at Kuakini. Dr. D.C. Willcox is a leading expert in centenarian studies, particularly in Okinawa Japan. Dr. Allsopp’s contributions to science include helping to establish the link between telomere shortening and cell aging, the role of telomerase in blood stem cell aging, and more recently the mechanism by which FOXO3 impacts human lifespan and healthspan. David G. Watumull and his team at Cardax have developed a unique bio-absorptive formulation of astaxanthin. Dr. Willcox helped pioneer the field of FOXO3 and human aging, and continues to be active in researching the impact of FOXO3, as well as other genes, on human longevity and healthy aging.

His recent study developed an AI-based model to predict in-hospital mortality in elderly hip fracture patients, using data from over 52,707 cases across 90 hospitals. By applying machine learning techniques, he created a tool to assist clinicians in improving decision-making. In the future, he plans to continue his research in the field of aging and geriatric care.

She is now an Instructor at DFCI/HMS. She is a gold medalist in her undergraduate studies and received the best doctoral thesis award in medicine faculty of HKU in 2018. Her thesis was published as a book by Elsevier in 2019. She has now co-founded a start-up to find novel therapeutics in blood-related disorders. Shawn Hakimi is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the McMaster Insitute for Research on Aging at McMaster University, Canada. Shawn’s research is situated at the nexus of physical activity epidemiology and gerontology. He focuses on investigating the collective effects of daily movement behaviours (physical activity, sedentary behaviour, sleep duration) using integrated analytical approaches. His goal is to understand the optimal daily levels of these behaviours and their impact on healthy ageing. Shawn has also previously worked in the public health field at the provincial level, and internationally for a non-governmental oragnization.

Dr. Adrian Yap is a Senior Consultant and Director of Research at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. He holds professorial appointments at several leading dental schools, including the University of Hong Kong, Peking University, and Sichuan University. Additionally, he serves as a Clinical/Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Duke-NUS Medical School. Dr. Yap earned his PhD, BDS, and Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy from NUS, along with an MSc from the University of London. A recipient of numerous clinical, research, and academic awards, including the NUHS-Mochtar Riady Pinnacle Master Clinician Award, he is recognized for his expertise in Temporomandibular Disorders and Biomaterials. With over 300 international journal articles (Scopus H-index: 50), 765 conference/seminar papers, book chapters, and patents to his name, Dr. Yap is a prolific contributor to these fields. He also serves on the editorial boards of many journals such as Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, CRANIO, Current Nanoscience, and Journal of Clinical Medicine.

Uwe Rudolph is Professor and Department Head of Comparative Biosciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. For three decades, he has performed research on the physiological and pharmacological functions of GABAA receptor subtypes. His lab also recently developed novel mouse models of hippocampal aging by chemogenetically inactivating or by ablating somatostatin interneurons in the dentate gyrus hilus. His current focus is on developing novel treatment strategies to prevent or to treat perioperative neurocognitive disorder, which occurs primarily in aged individuals, by targeting a5-GABAA receptors. This receptor subtype has been shown to have fundamentally different functions in aged animals compared to young adult animals. Uwe Rudolph is a 2025 Fellow of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET).

Yulin Ge is Professor of Radiology at New York University (NYU) Grossman School of Medicine with over 25 years of extensive training and expertise in the field of imaging research focused on neurodegenerative diseases. His lab research concentrates on employing advanced MRI techniques to investigate microvascular abnormalities as well as neurodegenerative processes in neurological conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injury. He has received numerous honors and awards, including the Cornelius G. Dyke Memorial Award, the Distinguished Investigator Award from the Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research, and the Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and Fellow of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM).

Dr. De Rosa has authored more than 20 publications in prestigious international journals. Her research focuses on neurobiology and neuropharmacology, particularly the molecular mechanisms underlying these processes, using the invertebrate Caenorhabditis elegans as a model organism.
